It has been another very busy term at CSGS. The early part of it was taken up by preparations for examinations and then the exams themselves. I hope that all students who took examinations this summer are now enjoying an extended holiday. I look forward to seeing our Year 11 students join the Sixth Form and wish Year 13 students every success in the next step in their lives. For the rest of the school it has been a very busy term as well. All students enjoyed the various activities which were part of our Character Week at the beginning of July. There were too many different activities to list them all but they ranged from working with the Army to doing Maths puzzles and the whole of Year 8 enjoyed three day projects working with a member of staff on one topic. The week was finished off by another highly successful Sports Day.
There have been some notable success this term. In the Technology area we came runners up in the National IET competition for the Faraday Challenge, and we won best ‘Product Design’ in the Jack Petchey finals. This year the Year 7 to 10 cricket teams all reached the North Kent Cup final with the Year 9 and Year 10 teams winning the cups. In the Kent Plate the Year 9 and Year 10 teams reached the final with the Year 9 team retaining the trophy. In addition, the Year 8 boys and the Year 7 girls won the Bexley Athletics Championships for the first time in over a decade.
It is always at this time of year that we say farewell to a number of colleagues who are leaving CSGS. I would particularly like to thank Mr Thomas, Mrs McWhinnie, Mrs Allen and Mrs Hitchcock who are retiring this year having given years of dedicated service to the school. Mrs Hitchcock will be returning but in the role of Librarian. I would like to wish all those others who are leaving great success in the future and I look forward to welcoming the new highly qualified members of staff who are staring on their Chis ’n Sid journey in September.
As I write, we are in the middle of a very hot period of weather and it looks set for some time to come. So I wish you all a very pleasant and relaxing summer holiday and I look forward to welcoming our students back again in September, full of enthusiasm for the year ahead.
