On the 13th June, pupils from Townley and St. Catherine’s joined Chis and Sid pupils to listen to a talk from Metro. No, not the train companies, but an organisation that specialises in helping teens come to terms with who they are. Over the course of an hour, pupils and staff learnt about the acceptance and understanding of the LGBTQI+ society. They were told about overcoming bullying and negative attitudes towards this society and left the whole room with some shocking statistics. For example, 48% of trans people under the age of 26 have attempted suicide and 30% had admitted to doing it in the past year! Metro allowed participants in the room to understand fully the importance of acceptance towards everyone. The Mental Health Ambassador team really enjoyed working alongside Metro and the school’s Equality team. They look forward to working even more with them in the future.
