It was once again a pleasure to attend the annual Young Musician of the Year Competition. Although there are outstanding performances every year, for me the overall standard across the key stages this year was the highest it has ever been. Our guest judges – professional flautist Sandrine Jones and professional pianist Micah Rose-Trespeuch – were very impressed with the technical standard of our performers. There were some extremely tough decisions about who would win each prize, but eventually winners were chosen for KS3, KS4 and KS5 performers, as well as composition and group categories. Congratulations to all of our finalists, prize winners and of course the overall winner of Young Musician of the Year 2017: Emily Barnett.
