Last week Chis and Sid sent 5 members of Team Alpha to the Young Enterprise regional finals at the civic offices in Bexley. We were competing against other local schools such as Bexley Grammar and Eltham Hill and had judges from major organisations including Disney, the Ministry of Defence, and Costa Coffee. We started the afternoon by first setting up our trade stand which, although unexpectedly pressured for time, we managed to pull off and had a great stand even with pins all over the floor from the rush.
To prepare for the day we had to write a report of our company’s achievements (and fallbacks too). Fortunately this was not my field so I was not required to help. Although with minor flaws on the financial section, we otherwise were congratulated on the professionalism in our report. Unfortunately we missed out on gaining an award for the report. Next we had our group interview where the Judges gave us loads of feedback. Even with the deafening trolleys of cups going past we answered many questions from the Judges and even had a bit of humour. Soon after we did a presentation for the judges and Deputy Mayor of Bexley. Even with technical difficulties it went very smoothly.
At the event a young man presented his own successful enterprise of photography. He made a fun and engaging speech on all the ups and downs of running his own business. From drone time-lapses to wedding photography, he showed how his knowledge of photography and assistance from his father allowed him to develop a truly remarkable business.
The evening ended with the judging and we were awarded with the Environment Award, presented by the Deputy aMyor along with our certificates. It was a nice way to finish a hard yet rewarding few months participating in the Young Enterprise competition.
