The Chis & Sid Young Musician of the Year 2016 Finals were held on Tuesday the 12th of April, where pupils presented some truly astounding performances for the audience’s entertainment. Judges Roza Kalnins, Anthony Camillo and our very own Mr Matthew Thomas presided over the evening’s events and gave feedback to all contestants, as well as the awards for final category winners, who were:
KS3: Alan Gurung Lama – Cello
KS4: Tom Butler – Voice
KS5: Matt Langdon – Drums
Composition: James Ivackovic – Valse de Romance.
Ensembles: Hubert Cumberdale (The soon to be famous sixth form band!)
The overall Young Musician of the Year 2016 was awarded to music department stalwart Matt Langdon, who gave an outstanding performance of Rush’s YYZ in the KS5 solo category, and then provided the rhythmic drive to support Hubert Cumberdale’s triumph in the ensembles category.
There were also honourable mentions for Aneira Knight (Voice), the Chis & Sid String Quartet, and Daniel Carstairs in the composition category.
Once again, the pupils at Chis & Sid demonstrated their incredible musical talents, and we look forward to hearing many of them perform in the upcoming summer concert on Tuesday the 5th of July.
